The thieving scumbags took all my army medals, name tag, my Pristine condition Imjim Scout Badge, 2/9 belt buckle, and whatever else that goes with the dress greens. I couldn't find my DD214 and applied for (in August) a copy and how could I get medals that were stolen. I received the DD214 today along with a second page called a DD215. The DD215 is an correction to the DD214. I've read about a Korean Defense Service Medal (KDSM) that was in the works. The DD215 adds the KDSM. The cover letter states that they will be sending a National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), Armed Forces Expedition Medal (AFEM), Sharpshooter Badge with Auto Rifle Bar, and the KDSM. Now if I could just get the Imjin Scout badge. I'll have to be on the look out for one somewhere. (Status: awaiting approval and processing at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC). Request has not been submitted for fulfillment. Contact (314)-801-0800.) I was in Korea with the 2nd/9th about Nov 1970 - Feb 1972. Sometime around spring or summer the 2nd/9th changed to the 1st/31st. I put up on my web page a 1970 2/9 yearbook and 1971 1/31 yearbook. I also put up a few pictures while in the DMZ and others. In Oct. of '68 I was on a fence position with a PFC Lennox of "C"co.2/23rd, he was wounded while walking the fence. I had to treat his wound and carry him to a jeep, as it could not get to us because it was too muddy and slick to drive on. I need help to verify that I was indeed with him, as I was injured while carrying him and falling several times going up a hill to the jeep. I can't find anything to verify that I was with him, and need proof for a Comp. claim. Also I would like to become a member. Thank You, Keep Up the Fire!!! C.M.Atkinson |

mrblase@hotmail.com posted on: Thu Aug 27 13:12:43 EDT 2009 UNIT ASSIGNED: 1/23rd Infantry Great site and looking around it brings back a lot of memories, both good and bad, from my 16 months (3 month involuntary extension) at Freedom Bridge and the DMZ with Charlie Company 1st of the 23rd from February 1968 until May 1969. I did many things during those 16 months, from being the FDC in our 81mm weapons platoon, driving a "secret" light jeep used for light missions on the line, Charge of quarters and spending many long nights with my KATUSA friend in a hole on the line. I also had a top security clearance and worked on the prototype of the night observation device (NOD Squad) and McNamara’s secret anti-intrusion devise testing. It was never dull. I made some good friends over there who I am still in touch with. When I got home there was a brand new 1969 candy apple red Mustang Mach 1 sitting in the garage that I had my parents buy for me with the combat pay that I saved up. Those were the days. |

I spent most of 1969 on the DMZ with Co A, 2/9th and if I recall correctly your dad worked in the motor pool. Does your dad use email? KEEP UP THE FIRE! Don Lopez |

I did a short stint (30 days) with 1/9th at Cp. Custer in Pajuri. It sat right under Charlie Block. I went back to the 1/38 after I turned 18. I earned my Imjin patch while across the river doing patrols. No man's land was a little scary. Gate 17 was even scarier. I sent a message on this site yesterday but have not seen it posted. I guess Don is busy. So to all of you still out there, ROCK OF THE MARNE and KEEP UP THE FIRE. I wore them both. |

sctrtrmp@yahoo.com posted on: Thu Aug 6 20:52:59 EDT 2009 UNIT ASSIGNED: 4/7th Cavalry Hi, Really enjoyed your site! I am proud to have served as a medic with HHT 4/7 Cavalry posted at Camp Garry Owen, just outside Yon Ju Gol in Paju Province from 1987-1988. I was able to complete 30 DMZ patrols while attached to Alpha and then Bravo troops. I will NEVER as long as I live forget how dark it got when on a night op. Our squad always reconned up to the perimeter fence, doubled back and set up an ambush for an hour or two. During that time, it would be as black as ink on moonless nights and the damn North Korean propaganda towers never stopped with their messages rolling through the hills and valleys. Upon completion of the missions, I was awarded a "DMZ Mission" certificate from the Commander and an (unoffical) OD Green Imjin Scout patch and dress medal. Weren't s'pose to, but I snuck out my "DMZ Police" armband all were required to wear while on patrol. I need to dig that stuff out. Thanks for the site and for providing me a chance to think aobut my time in Korea. Take care, Tom Clark |

pielit@q.com posted on: Mon Aug 3 19:30:14 EDT 2009 UNIT ASSIGNED: 2/9th Infantry Don Great site brings back lots of memories. I served from Oct/Nov 70 to Feb 72 with the 2/9th(M) B Co. 2nd platoon. I must admit that almost 40 years later I can't remember the first camp I stayed at. I'm assumming that it was Camp Lawton because of a Stars and Strips article I have. Seems like a few months later (Jan-Mar 1971) we moved to Liberty Bell. I can't remember when the 2/9 changed to the 1/31(M), June/July maybe? Anyone with info please let me know. I have lots of slides that at present I'm scanning (just started last week). Some are not in great shape (thanks to the ex) but lots are ok. Don, I have two year books that I could scan for you if you like. On the cover of one is 2/9 Korea 1970, published Dec 1970 (question, what does the 8th army have to do with the 2/9? Is it the Man Chu II?). The other is 1/31(M) Camp McKenzie (figures the name would be on the cover of this one) 1971 Korea, published Jul 71 (also says photgraphed Jul 71. If anyone else would like one, let me know. I found your site because I trying to reconnect people I served with. David Evans Phoenix, Arizona |

I was assigned to HHC, 1st Bn 38th Infantry. First to the Recon Platoon then to Bn S-1. I saw the Pueblo crew being released towards the end of my tour. That was an interesting day! Every battalion north of the river was on full alert! There were patrols everywhere! There was a battery of 105's "North of the River" with the barrels darned near vertical. First time I ever saw them there. The gun crews were at the guns! The 4/7th Cav seemed to have more tanks across than the usual platoon or so next to the RR bridge. APC's were all over the place too! I never visited the "First Chance/Last Chance Bar" "home for wayward girls" or any of the other places on the south side the cement bridge! Not the "Turkey Farm" down by Camp Custer either! "Hey GI! You want...........?" I also never took the bus that went thru Artillery Valley to the town on the crossroads between the 2d ID and 7th ID Sectors to visit the Turkish Bath that was there! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Have all my Imjin Scout patches and the Certificate as well! Right now am looking at my enameled Imjin Scout DMZ badge in the vinyl hanger that was worm on khakis.
