I just found this site via another Imjin Scout who reached out to me for some memory jogging. Thanks to Don Lopez for this site. I arrived in Korea straight out of OCS (55th Company, Ft. Benning) and straight into the Blue House incident. Being a brand new platoon leader, I knew we were in trouble when we were issued grenades, live ammo, and no range officer! With that icy cold indoctrination I soon learned that Korea was not "the best kept secret in the Army" as I had been told by some Eighth Army REMFs. During that incident one of my OCS classmates in the unit to our left flank was shot. Reality set in quickly. I remember looking at the bright red blood residue where he had been shot days later as the cold winter preserved it like it was fresh.

As were all units in Korea, we were not up to TOE strength and had to make do with what we had. Hats off to the NCOs who could work minor miracles with little or nothing. My senior NCO, an SFC, had to be medivaced out because of a serious non combat knee injury while we were being deployed to the frozen paddi fields. His replacement just graduated from NCOCS and had less experience than me! But he stepped up and we managed through the incident.

Okay, some names I remember: BN CO LTC Romano, Bravo CO CPT Randall, HHC CO (and later CPT Randall's replacement) CPT Taylor, Platoon Leader 2LT Dennis Lauer, Platoon Leader, 2LT Robert Peck, XO 1LT Lonnie Wright, Platoon SGT, SFC Coleman, Charlie CO CPT Early.

Loads of stories of course, but good to touch base.
